The longlist for the 2010 Man Booker Prize was announced today. The finalists are:
Parrot and Oliver in America – Peter Carey
Room – Emma Donoghue
The Betrayal – Helen Dunmore
In a Strange Room – Damon Gulgut
The Finkler – Howard Jacobson
The Long Song – Andrea Levy
C – Tom McCarthy
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet – David Mitchell
February – Lisa Moore
Skippy Dies – Paul Murray
Trespass – Rose Tremain
The Slap – Christian Tsiolkas
The Stars in the Bright Sky – Alan Warner
I’ve only heard of a few of these, but I’ll definitely keep my eye out for them, or for their publishing dates in the US. I have to say, even though I haven’t read it yet, I hope that Room ends up on the shortlist!

I've only heard of a few too. I did read Room and thought it was very good and creative, so I hope, too, that it makes the short list!
I'm really thrilled with the longlist this year, and I decided to read them all. It's a rather U.S. friendly list this year, as eight of the thirteen are already out here or will be soon. I was also happy to see Room on the list, and it's now at the top of my TBR.
As an active reader and book blogger, it constantly amazes me how so many books I've not heard of. I've heard of several of the authors listed here, but only one of the books. There goes my TBR pile. :)
I'll also cop to having heard of only one book on the list: Andrea Levy's The Long Song, which I definitely want to read! I adored her book Fruit Of The Lemon and think she's a really powerful writer.
