Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com

Well, this week was an extremely productive reading week, mostly because I was cooped up at home all of Friday and Saturday!  We got about 2 feet of snow this weekend, so I curled up in my reading chair and read, read, read.  It was amazingly relaxing and I had a great time doing it, plus I read some wonderful books that have been sitting on my shelf for a really long time!  I’m not going anywhere today (and possibly tomorrow, depending on the situation with the roads), so there will be more great reading to come!

Tuesday’s supposed to bring another snow storm, and they’re talking about up to 6 inches of snow.  I certainly hope next weekend is clear, as we will be traveling to see my husband’s parents and brother, and we don’t want to get stuck out of town!  While I won’t be around over the weekend, I have reviews scheduled to go up every day, as usual.

This week, LOST was back!  I posted my regular recap/review/discussion of the season premiere, LA X, Parts 1 and 2.  I also posted about a new online book club for which I am an official blogger, the SheKnows Book Club.  Finally, I posted my Monthly Review for January.

Books I’ve read this week:

All Unquiet Things – Anna Jarzab

Once in a Lifetime – Cathy Kelly

One Amazing Thing – Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Atlas of Unknowns – Tania James

The Language of Secrets – Dianne Dixon

The Last Man on the Moon – Gene Cernan & Don Davis

Devil in Winter – Lisa Kleypas

Kitchen Chinese – Ann Mah

The Thistle and the Rose – Jean Plaidy

The Cougar Club – Susan McBride

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

Marriage and Other Acts of Charity – Kate Braestrup

Fury – Salman Rushdie

Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte – Kyra Davis

Other reviews posted this week:

Lunch in Paris – Elizabeth Bard

O, Juliet – Robin Maxwell

The Three Weissmanns of Westport – Cathleen Schine

Requiem in Vienna – J. Sydney Jones

B. Smith Cooks Southern Style – Barbara Smith

Possessed – Kate Cann

The Gardner Heist – Ulrich Boser

I read a lot this weekend due to the snowstorm too--it was wonderful, wasn't it?

You read a nice variety of fun and light and better books. I actually read two books yesterday -- a rarity for me these days.

I can't wait to hear what you thought of The Book Thief. I just finished it myself but haven't written and posted my review yet!

Wow, you read 14 books in one week? I am impressed as well as envious. I literally do not have enough hours with DH and my three sons.
Stay warm and happy reading! :)

That's quite the snow storm you all got out there. Stay safe!

More Salman Rushdie. I know your husband's happy about that. LOL!

I don't even read 14 books in a month, even with an audio always playing in my ear! Sheesh! The amount of snow you all have received this winter is just insane. It is a bit nippy in Florida today, but I best not complain.

Oh I wish I could read as much as you. Maybe I'd make a dent in my TBR piles! :)

I don't really wish for snow but if it'd make me stay indoors all day and read then it may not be a bad thing. haha..

Stay warm and keep on reading great books!

Man, I can't believe how much reading you got done! I bet it was so relaxing to sit and watch the snow fall (especially on a weekend -- you didn't have to hassle with trying to get to work) and read, read, read. (We're under a winter storm watch here in frozen Midwest, with up to 12 inches expected Tuesday into Wednesday.) I'm finally finding some books that are capturing my interest, after a few weeks of blah-ness, bookwise. I have a page turner of a thriller, "They Never Die Quietly" to recommend to all those who enjoy mysteries and thrillers. You're hooked from the first couple of pages -- the writing is first-rate and the characters are explained well. In a nutshell, it's about a serial killer (deranged, but doesn't appear that way to the world at large), and the woman homicide detective determined to catch him, partly to get the respect of her fellow (male) homicide squad people. It is violent, but I'm getting used to that in mysteries and thrillers, upon occasion.

I forgot -- wanted to add that I'm now reading anotehr mystery I'm quite enjoying: Kathy Reichs' latest in the Temperance Brennan series, "206 Bones." (http://www.amazon.com/206-Bones-Novel-Temperance-Brennan/dp/0743294394)

Everyone's all surprised you read 14 books, I actually almost a little surprised that you ONLY read 14, since you read 6 or 7 on Saturday. I hope you got a nice break on Sunday when you decided you were done reading for the time being. Did you stop between all of those books and write reviews?
