Well, it’s back! And back in full force, I might add – I loved the season premiere, though I had a lingering sadness throughout the episode that this was the last LOST season premiere I’d ever watch!
Let’s start with Juliet. I knew she was going to be dead because that was one of the few things that Darlton (the producers/head writers, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) would confirm about Season 6, but I have to admit, I still got my hopes up when they found her alive. It was so crushing to watch her die again! What do you think she meant by “It worked”? Is she referring to the alternate reality we’ve been seeing?
Speaking of the alternate reality, what’s going on there? The Island is under water and the plane never crashes. I think this might continue, showing us what would have happened to everyone if they had never crashed; and in fact, I think it’ll end up demonstrating that their lives would not have been any better had they not crashed. But what about the differences – Hurley being lucky, Desmond being on the plane, etc.? I have to say, though, it was great to see Boone and Charlie.
The Temple was interesting – we’ve been hearing about it for awhile now, so it’s good to finally see it. I’m so, so glad that Sayid is alive. It was difficult enough to deal with Juliet’s death without also having to handle Sayid’s. I assume that’s also how they saved Ben, but my question is will Sayid now be missing his innocence (not that he really had any left, but at least he still had the capacity to be a nice guy!), like Ben?
It’s clear that we’re headed for a Jin/Sun reunion soon, which I’m very happy about. The producers have said that we’re never going to get a definitive answer as to why Sun didn’t jump backwards in time with everyone else, but that the fans would probably be able to figure it out – any theories?
The comments that “Locke” made to Richard were interesting – I wonder when/why Richard was in chains? Or was it metaphorical – maybe the “chains” were Richard’s long life and now that Jacob’s dead, he’s going to die? I’m assuming that “Locke” is the smoke monster and he’s able to shape shift. Where is home for him? And why is he disappointed in the Others? For following Jacob instead of him?
There was so much to discuss about this episode, but I’m going to stop there. Thoughts, questions, concerns?

I am pretty sure the chains were literal chains. The Black Rock was a slave ship, so Alpert was probably originally a slave on that ship...hence the chains.
I also do not think Sayid is Sayid...I think he is now Jacob, well more like Jacob is now Sayid. All of the Jesus allusions with both Jacob and Sayid tends to lean that way.
GREAT episode!
Caitie - My husband had the same thoughts re: Richard and the Black Rock. It's a very interesting thought!
I like the Jacob/Sayid idea too. Interesting!
LOL I dare not read your post because I've just started watching season 1!!! Part 5-8 are on the agenda for next Friday.
Anyway, enjoy the last season of Lost!
I love how the bad buy/smoke monster became mostly good guy Locke and the good guy/Jacob became mostly bad guy Sayid. Part of the nothing is irreversible?
Is the island underwater the result of the hydrogen bomb?
Lots and lots to ponder.
Sun not back in time because she has an anchor in her child?
I think it's safe to assume Locke is smokey is the man in black. I agree with you about Juliet. I hated having to see her die twice.
I really hope we get some Des Penny story. :)

LOL.. you sound like Mags and I last night. More questions than answers, for sure.
I think Jacob is inhabiting Sayid's body, and I wonder if Smokey, Jacob, and Richard aren't like the Gods of mythology, or something. Maybe Richard is Promethius... hmm... Just a thought I had this second, so not a real LOST theory.
is it next week yet?
Not sure he IS Jacob. Smokie took over Locke without needing Locke's physical body. Why would Jacob need Sayid's physical body? Also why would Jacob need Sayid to be healed at the temple if he could just take over his body in the jungle? The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned.
Why didn't smokie kill everyone on the beach when he got out? It seems everyone in the temple is piss-scared about him, but he is apparently only concerned with grudges against Jacob and Richard.
I also think the alternative time-line 2004 is very important in this season. Why else show so much of it and the relationships these losties are ... See Moreforming? I don't think it's going to be like the alternative time line in "It's a wonderful life" where he was 'never born'. I think they will still work together and accomplish something that the 2007 losties need.
I do think that the non-time travelers in 1977 on the island DID die. So unless alternate Jacob was out of town, he, along with Richard, Smokie and the others died in the atomic blast which sunk the island.
If smokie was such an evil character that everyone was scared of, then why did he have access to temple, including an ancient relief of him on the wall in front of an egyptian god, and why do the 'others' go to him in ... See Moreorder to be judged? Why does Ben have a phone line to smokie to call him up when he needs people killed?
Surely if he was the nemesis of Jacob, that kind of behavior wouldn't be going on, would it?
Sun didnt travel back to 77 with Oceanic Six cause Ben gave her the wrong wedding ring.
No specific comments (I put all those in my recap at the LOST Books Challenge blog) but just wanted to say that I LOVED LOVED LOVED it! So glad LOST is back. :)
Perhaps Sun didn't go to 1977 because she didn't bring her daughter?
I agree with anonymous that Jacob can't be in Sayid's body because the nemisis isn't in Locke's body, he just shapeshifted into his body.
You would probably be intersted in a book I'm reading right now LOST's Buried Treasures 3rd Edition by Lynnette Porter & David Lavery.
I am going to rewatch the episode tonight because I had so many thoughts going through my head throughout the show. I do think Jacob is now in Sayid. I'm just so glad we didn't have to say goodbye to Sayid!
It was such an excellent episode. I was interested to finally figure out how they saved Ben's life (after Sayid shot him in the past) in the temple. I love that we're finally getting answers to some of the long-standing questions, but I'm also so sad to know it'll be over soon.
