Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com

Well, I spent most of this week recovering from a virus that I must have caught at the National Book Festival festivities last weekend!  (Yes, I know I promised you all a write-up of that event with pictures.  It’s coming at some point. Really.)  I didn’t get any reading done on Wednesday or Thursday, but managed to catch up with a lazy day yesterday.  Today is my online book club, and we’ll be discussion 31 Hours by Masha Hamilton – I cannot wait!

I’m also starting yoga classes this week, which I’m very excited about.  I took yoga at a place near my house, but I didn’t like their style of yoga or their attempts to constantly upsell me.  (“No, I can’t afford $1000 to go to your weekend seminar on healthy brain waves.”)  I’ve found another place that’s a little farther away, but hopefully it will suit me a little better!

I’ve gotten a little behind on blogging – not in a bad way, but I have a lot in my mind that I want to blog about.  In the next week or so, look for posts on the 24 Hour Read-a-thon, the National Book Festival, and the unofficial Booker Prize challenge that I’m creating for myself.

This week, I completed the Classics Challenge 2009 and posted the page for October review links for the Clear Off Your Shelves Challenge.  My Thursday Tunes for this week was Anna Nalick’s Shine EP.  I also posted my monthly review for September, 2009.

Books I’ve read this week:

The Queen’s Mistake – Diane Haeger

The ABC’s of Kissing Boys – Tina Ferraro

The Last Dickens – Matthew Pearl

31 Hours – Masha Hamilton

Mr. Darcy, Vampyre – Amanda Grange

The Laws of Harmony – Judith Ryan Hendricks

By the Time You Read This – Lola Jaye

Mistress of the Vatican – Eleanor Herman

A Map of the Known World – Lisa Ann Sandell

The Telling – Jo Baker

Other reviews posted this week:

Something, Maybe – Elizabeth Scott

A Map of Home – Randa Jarrar

Her Fearful Symmetry – Audrey Niffenegger

Ice Land – Betsy Tobin

Lies My Mother Never Told Me – Kaylie Jones

Tell Me Something True – Leila Cobo

Jane Austen Ruined My Life – Beth Pattillo

Catching Fire – Suzanne Collins [TSS]

I wasn't at the Festival, but I also spent the week recovering from a virus. Sorry to hear you were sick, glad to hear you are feeling better now! I am still amazed at the volume of reading you do, Swapna!!!

It seems like everyone came away from the Nat'l Book Festival with that bug - you should have joined me at nice, dry SIBA!

I'm glad you're feeling better! Kathy's right, it does seem like everyone got sick after the National Book Festival. I've unofficially been reading Booker winners, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say.

Hi, I've been following your blog for a few months now, acting on a tip from Wendy (Caribousmom). I really enjoy your posts. I see you're planning an unofficial Booker Prize challenge. I hope you will consider joining a group blog I host, The Complete Booker. Most of the contributors are working towards reading all winners but I'm interested in any & all reviews of winners & nominees. Just stop by the blog & follow the instructions for "how to join" ... would love to have you!

Also hope you'll check out my blog, Musings!
Have a great day!

I am glad you are feeling better, Swapna. My friend recently took up yoga and loves it. She's trying to convince me to give it a try. If I did, it would be something I'd do from the comfort of my own home though. The classes in the area are during the week while I'm working.

Congratulations on completing the Classics Challenge!

I hope you have a great week!

I'm glad a I missed out on the bug, even though it was lovely seeing you. I felt a little bit under the weather when I got home and put myself on immediate bedrest. I think I mostly needed to sleep.

Hope your new yoga place is better. I hate that upselling -- common in dance studios too.
