My favorite Dickens novel is proooobably Tale of Two Cities. Hard to say, just not Great Expectations. Middle school english teacher ruined that one for me.

My favorite Dickens is A Tale of Two Cities-I was obsessed with the opening and went around quoting it for a couple of months when I was younger. Thanks for the giveaway!

I agree with the first poster - I read Great Expectations in 9th grade and it ruined everything. I have since started a couple others but can't...quite...make...it....

Sadly, I am one of those that hasn't read a Dickens novel... yet.

Tale of Two Cities - read in high school and loved it. I got about halfway through the Pickwick Papers once and liked it, but got busy with other things. I'd like to return to it sometime, though.

The only thing I can think is that all these people listing "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Great Expectations" have never read Dickens's masterpiece (and Dickens's own personal favorite among all his books) "David Copperfield".

Rebecca @ The Book Lady's Blog said...

Of course I loved A TALE OF TWO CITIES and GREAT EXPECTATIONS and OLIVER TWISTS (and pretty much all the Dickens I've read because, well, he's amazing)....but my all-time favorite, the one I re-read every year, is A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

A Christmas Carol. I need to read more by him though. Not sure how I got through high school English classes AND college without reading more. Thanks so much for the chance to win!

My favorite is probably A Christmas Carol.

I hated Great Expectations and David Copperfield...read them in school and it was just...bad.

I look forward to A Tale of Two Cities!

I've only read one Dickens, GREAT EXPECTATIONS! I read it this summer as part of Book on the Nightstand's Beowulf on the Beach Summer Reading Challenge. I picked that book over Bleak House because it was the shorter of the two. That said, as clever as a wordsmith as Charles Dickens may be, the constant cleverness got to be a bit wearing and so it still felt like a really long book! Even though I ended up not liking it as much as I had hoped, I'm still glad I read it and I've got A CHRISTMAS CAROL on my TBR stack.
