Book Giveaway – Asian-American Heritage Month

I was pondering what I could do in order to honor Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (whew, that’s a mouthful!), when an opportunity fell in my lap (or should I say, my e-mail inbox!) Hachette Book Group has generously offered 5 books for me to give away to my lucky readers! I don’t normally give away books I haven’t read or reviewed, but I figured this would be a great way to introduce people to some new Asian authors in honor of this month!

The books are:

1. Free Food for Millionaires By Min Jin Lee

2. Trail of Crumbs By Kim Sunée

3. The Fortune Cookie Chronicles By Jennifer Lee

4. Transparency By Frances Hwang

5. Strangers from a Different Shore By Ronald Takaki

There will be 5 winners for this giveaway, each receiving one copy of each of these books (i.e. each winner will receive all 5 books)! No P.O. Boxes please, and this giveaway is limited to the U.S. & Canada since these books are coming from the publisher. This contest will run through Sunday, May 31. I will announce the winners on Monday, June 1.

How to enter: Leave a comment on this post to enter telling me about your favorite Asian/Pacific/Indian sub-continent author. You must tell me this and leave your e-mail address in your comment in order to be eligible!

Additional entries:

1. Blog about the giveaway and link back here.

2. Tweet about the giveaway.

3. Stumble a review and let me know which review you Stumbled in the comments. (More about StumbleUpon in this post.)

Good luck!

Without a doubt Indu Sundaresan-I loved The Twentieth Wife and A Feast of Roses.

I could only be so lucky! I'm seriously going to cross my fingers for this one though. Tough question, but I think I'd have to say Jhumpa Lahiri.

I'm going to go with B (and probably a TON of forthcoming commenters) and say Jhumpa Lahiri. I know it is unoriginal, but I love her.

I don't have a favorite Asian author. I don't think I've read an Asian-themed book, other than The Good Earth by Pearl Buck. But I love Asian movies like Memories of a Geisha, so I think that I would like Asian books as well.

My favorite Asian-American author is definitely Laurence Yep. While none of his books are actually my favorite, his consistent quality and dedication to tracing the journey of the Chinese in the United States through his children/young adult novels make him just a great guy!

Ooooh, I'm so in. Right now, one of my favorite authors is Amitav Ghosh, who is sort of from the Indian sub-continent, but not at the same time (he lived in a lot of places). I don't like all of his writing, but a lot of it is really interesting and his world view is pretty fascinating.

Now for the boring stuff:
