I've seen this floating around the blogosphere and have decided to give it a whirl.
Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback? Trade paperback, definitely. Hardbacks are too big, especially when shelf space is a premium, and too heavy to carry around. Mass market paperbacks are just irritating to me. Trade paperbacks all the way! (That being said, I will read a book in pretty much any format, I just prefer trade paperbacks.)
Barnes & Noble or Borders? Borders. First of all, there's Borders Rewards and the wonderful coupons that seem to be coming weekly in this down economy. Second, I prefer Borders' displays; I've usually already read or heard of all the books on Barnes and Noble's.
Bookmark or dog-ear? Bookmark. I've started amassing a random collection of bookmarks, though they often end up on the floor, rather than in the box I have for them.
Amazon or brick-and-mortar? Amazon. You can't beat the selection and I have Amazon Prime, so I get the book in 2 days. Plus I usually don't feel like battling DC traffic and paying for parking.
Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random? It's pretty random, although roughly grouped by subject.
Keep, throw away, or sell? Keep, if I love it. Sometimes I sell, more often than not I trade.
Keep dust jacket or toss it? Keep it, but I usually take it off while I'm reading the book.
Read with dust jacket or remove it? Remove it.
Short story or novel? Novels, definitely. I used to not read short stories at all, but have gotten into them over the past year. Still, they just don't hold my attention like novels do.
Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Harry Potter! I haven't read any Lemony Snicket, it's on my TBR list.
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? Chapter breaks. I can't stop a book in the middle of a chapter.
“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? “It was a dark and stormy night," definitely. Gothic mysteries are TOTALLY my thing.
Buy or borrow? Both. I borrow about 1/4 of the books I read and probably buy 1/4. The other 1/2 comes from review books and books I've had sitting on my shelves.
Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse? I don't know many people who read, so I actually don't get many recommendations. I definitely get some ideas from browsing, but it's usually book reviews that sell me on a book.
Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Tidy, definitely. I like knowing what happens to all the characters.
Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading? Umm, all three please?
Stand-alone or series? Stand-alone, usually, but I do read some series. My problem with a series is that I don't like skipping, so I have to start at the beginning and read every book in order. I usually don't have that kind of time when it comes to reading!
Favorite series? I have a few. Megan McCafferty's Jessica Darling series and Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files come to mind first.
Favorite children’s book? No idea.
Favorite YA book? The Grey King by Susan Cooper, though the entire Dark is Rising series is excellent.
Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? Well, through the magic of book blogging, many people have heard of the books I love. Right now, it's probably First Darling of the Morning by Thrity Umrigar – AMAZING book! (My review)
Favorite books read last year? Well, I had quite a few five star reviews, but I'm not going to list all those here. I'd say The Sound of Language [review] by Amulya Malladi, Falling Under [review] by Danielle Younge-Ullman, The House on Tradd Street [review] by Karen White, An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination [review] by Elizabeth McCracken, The Opposite of Love [review] by Julie Buxbaum, In the Convent of Little Flowers [review] by Indu Sundaresan and A Thousand Splendid Suns [review] by Khaled Hosseini.
Favorite books of all time? Wow, this is too hard! I'll say The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins, The Iliad by Homer, Anybody Out There by Marian Keyes…
What are you reading right now? Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins, A Little Bit Wicked by Kristin Chenoweth and Hand of Isis by Jo Graham. I've also been reading various books for a final paper.
What are you reading next? I'm not sure, I usually just randomly pick out my next book.
Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old? I have no idea, I don't know any 11-year olds. Can't go wrong with The Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper though, one of the main characters is a 12-year-old.
Favorite book to re-read? I don't really have time to re-read books. But again, it'd be The Dark Is Rising series.
Do you ever smell books? Sometimes, especially if they are brand new.
Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries? Only for research for school.

I tried 1 1/2 books Lemony Snicket books, and just loathed them. Oh well!
I have an award for you! Come and get it at:

I'm also a trade paperback, Harry Potter girl but I prefer Barnes and Noble! :)
I find mass market paperbacks irritating too. I'm more of a bricks and mortar kind of gal - I like that instant gratification.
I love trade paperbacks too! And I also love YOU for putting Falling Under on your list of favorites from last year. Thank you!
This is a great meme. I did this one too. Thanks for the great answers.
ooh! What trade sites do you use? And will you be trading A Little Bit Wicked?
I just saw this meme on another blog and have truly enjoyed the answers. Perhaps I should do it as well?
