1. Do you have a favorite author?

I have many favorite authors, but if I had to pick one supreme favorite, it would be Salman Rushdie.

2. Have you read everything he or she has written?

No. I have read The Satanic Verses, The Ground Beneath Her Feet, East, West: Stories, The Moor's Last Sigh, and The Enchantress of Florence. I've also read half of Midnight's Children, but it's been so long that I don't remember it so when I pick it back up, I'll have to start from the beginning.

3. Did you LIKE everything?

Generally, yes, but Rushdie is a difficult author. For the most part, his novels just magically come together at some point during the book at which point I love them. But the novels are usually complicated and intricate and take a lot of time to read.

4. How about a least favorite author?

Not really - usually if I don't like one book by an author, I won't pick up any more of his/her books, so I can't say I have a real least favorite.

5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?

Toni Morrison. I know, I know, so many people LOVE her novels (so please don't hate me!). But I've just never found anything in those I've read that draws me to them, though her newest book sounds interesting and I've heard good things.

I sort of feel the same way about Toni Morrison. She's actually one author I've tried to read, but just couldn't get interested. But her latest book does sound good, so I'll probably give it a look.

I won't hate you, but I enjoyed the Toni Morrison books that I read. However, I did get to discuss them with a group afterwards, and I think that makes a difference. Please visit to see my answers.

Rushdie is indeed a difficult author. Despite that, I like reading him too.

I've never read Rushdie even though he was chosen in my book club. I just never read it. I think it was Midnight's Children.

I've never read Rushdie either, but my curiosity is piqued.

I've never read Rushdie. I meant to read Midnight's Children this last summer, but never got around to it. Hopefully next year.

I've also never read Toni Morrison. But again, she's on my list of authors to read next year (I think I'm starting with either Love or The Bluest Eye).

I hope to one day read something by Rushdie. I've heard such great things about his work.

Okay, so now you are officially the second reader whose opinions I respect who lists Rushdie as a favorite - I clearly have to read something of his.
