Booking Through Thursday

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

The most memorable book I have received as a gift is The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama. My sister got it for me for my birthday two years ago. I've been a Barack Obama fan for longer than most people have known who he is - I worked on his campaign when he was running for the Illinois Senate seat in 2004. Funnily enough, I haven't read the book yet! However, I pulled it off my shelf on Tuesday night and it has made its way to my nightstand. So I guess the reason this book is memorable is (a) my sister got it for me, which automatically makes it special and (b) November 4, 2008 in the United States of America.

That is wonderful that you supported Obama when he ran for the Senate! What an experience that must have been!! It sounds like the perfect time to read his book now. I plan to read his books as well.

That is very cool. I saw him speak when he was running for Senate. He was in Springfield, and I happened to be there visiting my family then. I was so inspired then, I knew he would go on to bigger and better things.

That is pretty cool! I've been meaning to read his books. I actually have since I started to support him in the primaries but I never got around to it. I think around now is a good time. Hehe.

My mother gave me *Dreams of My Father* about a year ago, after she read it. It's been on my shelf, and made it to *my* nightstand over the weekend. We have a similar "book queue" :)
