First off, I want to remind you all about my book giveaway that's currently going on - Off the Menu by Christine Son! Make sure you enter by tomorrow (Monday) at midnight. [review][entry page]
I got a lot of great books in the mail this week, which I'm excited about. One of these books was An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination by Elizabeth McCracken, which is a memoir that deals with the death of the author's unborn child. I am excited to read it, and even more excited that I'll be participating in a blog tour with the author on August 30, so stay tuned for that!
Unfortunately, I wasn't as productive as I would have liked with reading. Not including school books, I only completed 3 books this week - but they were all good, so I don't have too many complaints! They were:

Sleeping With Ward Cleaver - Jenny Gardiner [review]

The Forbidden Daughter - Shobhan Bantwal [review to come]

Cancer is a Bitch (or, I'd Rather Be Having a Midlife Crisis) - Gail Konop Baker [review to come]
In addition, I posted a lot of backlogged reviews:
The Fall of Troy - Peter Ackroyd [review]
Belong to Me - Marisa de los Santos [review]
Room for Love - Andrea Meyer [review]
Queen of Babble Gets Hitched - Meg Cabot [review]
I've also spent a lot of time cross-posting my reviews on LibraryThing and Amazon.com, something that I've been meaning to do for awhile but just haven't gotten around to!

I'm currently reading The Secret Bride: In the Court of Henry VIII by Diane Haeger, which is the story of Mary Tudor, Henry's sister. I know something of her story from the Showtime series The Tudors, but it seems a lot of that isn't even necessarily true (not that I'm surprised - the show, while enjoyable, is incredibly stylized). I'm not enjoying the book as much as I thought I would though - it seems much more historical romance than historical fiction. I'll post a review when I'm finished.
Well, that's a pretty good wrap-up of the week for me. We just ordered a new desktop computer that should hopefully be here by Wednesday and solve the last years worth of computer problems for us. We both have laptops, so it isn't that critical, but my laptop is an ultra portable so sometimes the small screen puts stress on my eyes.
That seems to be about it for me - what are you reading right now? Are you enjoying it?

Oh I'm also reading a bit about Henry VIII... Brief Gaudy Hour which is about Anne Boleyn. I'm just so fascinated by the Tudors. I haven't heard of The Secret Bride but will look for it!
Happy Sunday Salon!
My Gosh! When do you sleep? lol I have been wanting to read Sleeping With Ward Cleaver. I'll look for your review! Have a good week!
I agree wit hlIsa - I am impressed with all you seem to accomplish. You must have boundless energy. I received my first ARC from LT this week - Tears of the Dessert by Halima Bashir and I am LOVING it. I was so excited to get it. Thanks for the great reviews you post.
I always loved the first week of classes. Sometimes I wish I could go back just for the first week, and the pure pleasure of roaming around the bookstore. I haven't gotten a lot of reading done this week either, although I did finally finish Twelve Trees by J.D. Carpenter, and Create the Space You Deserve by Jill Butler. Butler's book was great because I really needed a good dose of inspiration to tackle redecorating my apartment to keep up with changes over the last year.
I am so impressed that you read three books in one week while in school. I can barely finish three books during an entire semester! Currently, I am reading a book you may enjoy: "What the Body Rememebers" It is about India in the 1930's You had mentioned before that you like reading books about Indian culture, so I thought you might like it.
When I was in grad school, I couldn't read three books a week. I was lucky to finish a book in a month!
I too have been cross posting my reviews on Amazon, LT, Shelfari and Barnes and Noble. I recently started adding reviews to Borders.com. I would like to post reviews on my public library website, but haven't done so yet.
I'm starting grad school next month and I am dreading the little time I'll have for reading. Your success in still reading 3 books a week gives me hope!
I really don't like when historical romance disguises itself as historical fiction. They are different genres. I like both, but I like to get what I'm expecting.
I'm really interested in The Forbidden Daughter and the novel about Mary Tudor. I haven't read much outside of the lives of Henry and his children. It won't be long now until Philippa's latest book, The Other Queen, about Mary, Queen of Scots hits the bookshelves. I cannot wait!
