The Demise of the Book Business?

New York Magazine has published yet another "the book industry is going down the tubes" article. It's quite long, but if you're interested, read the article and leave a comment letting me know what you think!

The End: Have We Reached the End of Book Publishing as We Know It?

I don't think we're going to see the demise of the publishing industry anytime soon. Relatively speaking, books are one of the more affordable sources of recreation/entertainment available today, and that's important when the economy is as troubled as our is right now. I do, however, think publishers need to take a long, hard look at how they do things and make some important changes before they price themselves out of the market.

Instead of writing doom and gloom articles why don't they try promoting reading like these book blogs do?!

I was shocked by the money given to a new author for one book! Yikes! How can they do that and then complain about 'the end of publishing'? Doesn't anyone there own a calculator?
