Booker Shortlist Announced!

Since today's Tuesday Thingers was about awards, I thought it would be appropriate to share that the finalists for this year's Booker Prize winners were announced today! The announcements were somewhat of a surprise apparently, since Rushdie's new novel The Enchantress of Florence (which I hope to finish this weekend) didn't even make the cut. The finalists are:

The White Tiger
by Aravind Adiga
The Secret Scripture
by Sebastian Barry
Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh
The Clothes on Their Backs by Linda Grant
The Northern Clemency by Philip Hensher
A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz

The only one of these I've heard of is The White Tiger. Anyone have any thoughts on the list or any of the books?

I've got a different book by Amitav Ghosh ... I'm sure it's going up the TBR pile since he made the short list. I read on another blog that three of these books haven't been released in the US yet and that's why we're all a bit clueless about the list.

I've only heard of the Sea of Poppies and it sounded good to me so I'll probably end up getting that one. I'll have to research the others though. Thanks for posting the list.
